Announcements from the ASRT

March 26, 2020

The American Society of Radiologic Technologists has joined a group of the nation’s leading medical imaging organizations in calling on President Trump to expedite supplies of personal protective equipment in the face of critical and potentially life-threatening shortages.

On Thursday, March 26, ASRT joined the American College of Radiology, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board, Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging in calling for N95 masks, protective face shields, gowns, gloves and other equipment needed to keep diagnostic imaging professionals safe during their selfless response to a global pandemic.

ASRT has signed on to a letter encouraging the President of the United States to “accelerate production and availability of personal protective equipment for those actively involved in face-to-face interaction with patients in hospitals and other healthcare facilities.”The letter to the president follows ASRT’s urgent call to action earlier this week encouraging all radiologic technologists to contact state and federal lawmakers to ask them to expedite production and distribution of PPEs. Thousands of medical imaging professionals have already used the ASRT Advocacy Action Center to locate their state and federal lawmakers and contact them to request support.

We urge all radiologic technologists to contact their state and federal lawmakers immediately. Take action today!

The American Society of Radiologic Technologists is asking lawmakers, government officials, health systems and other facilities to provide workplace and safety resources for medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals. There are reports of critical shortages of personal protective equipment including masks, gowns and eye protection. ASRT is asking stakeholders to expedite the manufacture and distribution of PPE to ensure the continued safety of radiologic technologists who face potential infection every day.

ASRT believes that radiologic technologists, as frontline health care professionals, need full and unlimited access to PPE to protect themselves and their patients. We encourage you to contact state and federal lawmakers to ask them to expedite production and distribution of PPE. Radiologic technologists can use the ASRT Advocacy Action Center to send messages directly to state and federal lawmakers.

In addition to communicating with key state and federal stakeholders, ASRT encourages technologists to follow proper infection control procedures. While social distancing may be incredibly challenging while working with patients, remember to follow social distancing practices during personal interactions with peers and other personnel in facilities.

As always, your safety and well-being, and that of the patients we care for, remains the fundamental priority for ASRT. Thank you again for your dedication to our profession.
